I have your letter of September 5th. (35)

My impression is that September 30th, 1947, would probably be quite acceptable as the "date specified in paragraph 2" of Article 4 of the China Order in Council 1943. I have, however, sent out a short circular to my Committee asking those who disagree with this date to let me know by Tuesday next and will write you again immediately thereafter. I hope this short delay will not inconvenience you.

As regards the other question you raise in connection with the possibility of calling upon British owned Companies registered in China to deposit certain documents with the Consulates out there, I am also getting the views of my Committee but it may take a little longer before i can answer you on this more complex question.
